Savanna Griechen

Savanna is a Registered Music Therapist and Drama Teacher with a background in trauma-informed practice and working with adults, children and teenagers. Savanna has worked previously as a classroom music and drama teacher in secondary education for 15 years. Savanna understands music's strong ties to identity and how teenagers are experts in their musical life, often listening to over 10,000 hours of music by the age of 18.

As a teacher, Savanna has worked in London, Melbourne, and the Sunshine Coast before returning to Perth in 2019. Savanna has also worked as a musician, undergoing chorus contracts with Opera Australia, THEATRINO (Theatre in Education) and performed in small venues as a songwriter and soloist. Savanna is a trained classical singer but also plays piano and guitar.

After teaching for many years Savanna wanted to learn how to combine music with health, recovery, and healing, after seeing the positive effects on the children and teenagers, she worked with who had experienced trauma. Savanna undertook a Master of Music Therapy, graduating in 2023. Savanna has experience, working with neurodivergent children, children experiencing trauma, people with acquired brain injury and stroke rehabilitation as well as dementia care.

Savanna's practice in DFV centres around attachment theory, family-centred care, and trauma-informed music therapy practice, with particular focus on how survivors can use their own musicality and play to encourage and continue bonds with their children and re-establish positive self-esteem and confidence outside their circumstances on the road to recovery. Savanna also advocates for post-traumatic growth in working with DFV, allowing survivors to acknowledge and process their grief, loss, and emotions in healthy ways, such as through improvisation and therapeutic songwriting.

Savanna plans to continue working with DART to facilitate workshops in the hope of teaching survivors (adult and child) how to use music and drama to support their healing and recovery process. Savanna is excited about supporting practitioners to build skills and knowledge in expressive arts therapy with survivors.

As the Founder and Director of easybeatsmusic, Savanna is driven to continue to support people's recovery and healing, and will undergo further accreditation in neurologic music therapy in 2024.
